Along side traditional return to work services, we also focus on the completion of Vocational Assessment reports.

Vocational Assessments are an objective evaluation of an individuals skills, employment history and experience, and educational background. Through an examination of these key components, and through the lens of an individuals capacity for work following injury, vocational options are identified and given real world context through the completion of an in depth examination of the local labour market.

Included in this service is the following:

  • Review of all referral documentation (inc. medical reports, history, etc)

  • Face-to-face meeting to complete the assessment

  • Utilisation of objective assessment tools examining psycho-social considerations, vocational interests, and transferable skills

  • Follow up session with the client to review vocational options and recommendations (if required)

  • Labour market analysis of identified options examining:

    • Wages

    • Job prospects

    • Physical/Psychological demands

    • Jobs available in the open/closed labour market

  • Education/training requirements in relation to vocational options

  • Ongoing vocational rehabilitation recommendations to assist in the obtainment of employment and the facilitation of a safe and sustainable return to work

Shift Vocational Consulting is able to complete Vocational Assessments through both a rehabilitation and medico-legal lens. It is important to distinguish between these two methodologies as the contextual make up of the assessment dictates the level of detail required in relation to the completion of the report.

Specific to medico-legal assessments, detailed commentary regarding wages and earning capacity in the context of the individual’s capacity for work can be provided using multiple sources (including Award Wages from the Fair Work Ombudsman and national employment data).

You can learn more about the difference between our Vocational Assessments by reading this guide.

It is important to note that it is not the role of a Vocational Rehabilitation Provider, or the function of a Vocational Assessment, to determine an individuals capacity for work. Vocational goals are identified through the lens of an individuals functional capacity for work as outlined by available medical evidence.
